<The only advantage to a one time write off here is it tends to minimize management's stupidity.>

I think you missed my point. I'm saying that the use of one time write-offs tend to coverup managements mistakes. My understanding is that CPQ is NOT taking a one time write-of.

Thread techies and Reichers:

Riechers, agree with your view of CPQ management.
With the assumption that you work in the IT industry,(pls excuse me if I'm wrong): if NT is the future of networking (as opposed to UNIX), and CPQ is already elaborating on this, what do you think is the benefit (to CPQ) of buying the UNIX centered DEC, even if it has a competent BUT UNIX centered sales, service, support. Retraining a large sales force in NT knowhow will cost big bucks. Clearly the Alpha chip is not the focus, and probably not Alta Vista.
Can any non-Unix, non-NT IT comrade enlighten the thread?
Thank you

CPQ management may not be stupid, but they overestimated the demand for their overpriced boxes with American businesses. They definitely have an inventory problem, and the much hyped built to order system is nonexistent. I'm amazed but the incredible stupidity in management's moves this quarter, and am pi?><>< off they don't admit it!
