You're right on. Taiwan doesn't have the debt problem, and sees this current situation as an opportunity to broaden market share if some of the other players blink. Taiwan still has new capital (chip) projects just coming on stream.

Promos has production .25mm wafers running through its fab now. Look for Siemens and Mosel Vitelic 64M SDRAM in finished goods within four months.

Major OEMs are giving this fab a serious look as an Japan/Korea alternative. This product will be PC100 compliant for Intel's BX chipset (if it matters).

BTW, regarding 16M DRAM, the Japanese are getting out and the Koreans are unloading volume now and cutting back production. Perhaps a nice play for Micron later this year...
