CORRECTION--It was THE BIG LEBOWSKI that was not GREAT but good. Any Coen brother film is worth a look. This one was worth more than that, but not quite up to par for films like FARGO and RAISING ARIZONA. John Goodman was very good opposite Jeff Bridges and the fantasy sequences were worth the price of admission. It dragged a bit in spots but basically was a very funny black comedy with feelings from the Viet Nam protest and druggy days. If you like off-beat movies, this is a must. Myron

GOOD WILL HUNTING is a very good study of the psychology of a disturbed late adolescent searching for a family. He also happens to be a mathematical genius. While this could have been a formula film, the direction, writing and acting made it a significant contribution to character studies on film. The sequences with the therapist were not corny or ingenuine and had a real feel to them and one could sense that one would have benefited from seeing Robin Williams in therapy. John Turtle, Ph.D. was the psychological consultant on the film and I am curious about his background as he did a superb job of keeping the therapeutic interchanges crisp and non-Hollywoodish. Molly Driver from Grosse Point Blank fame was the romantic involvement and she was wonderful. Finally Gus Van Zant has finally arrived as a complete director who can do more than just artsy strange movies.(I am not complaining about his previous output, only commenting on his increasing talent.) I think it will win lots of awards, hopefully the ones that TITANIC was to win and that will leave some for L.A. CONFIDENTIAL, my favorite of the year. Myron
