Database of Choice
Recognizing that change is a basic reality of business, Bank Papan selected Informix because it needed a powerful, scalable database foundation to build an Internet-based online banking application that will give them a competitive advantage today and into the future. In addition, Bank Papan has developed an in-house application for its mortgage Loan Origination System, using Informix Dynamic Server as the underlying database for corporate MIS. Known as VLOSity, it stores and processes information that originates from Lotus Domino. Bank Papan plans to port the VLOSity application to its Web site.
Said Mr. Neil Gamble, technical advisor, Bank Papan, ''We recognize the lower cost per transaction for business done on the Internet. In these difficult economic times, all businesses are looking to lower their costs. By being the first bank in Indonesia to offer our clients Internet banking, we are able to pass on these cost savings back to our clients and ultimately benefit our shareholders. At the same time, we are empowering our clients with control by emphasizing self-service transactions in all service delivery channels.''
He further added, ''Internet banking is the first phase of our plan to utilize current technology to meet our fast-changing business environment. Ultimately, we will be linking all of our service delivery channels like ATMs, branch tellers and telephone banking services as well. Informix technology is the relational database management system of choice, especially for Internet and Electronic Commerce initiatives.''
Summarizing Bank Papan's strategic decision in favor of Informix for this mission critical operation, Mr. Kris Darwin, vice president - IT Retail Banking Systems said, ''We have implemented the first object-oriented switching system in the South East Asian financial industry, and this is based on Informix technology. Using Informix object relational database technology allows us to rapidly deploy our applications and business rules. This is all done with minimum application maintenance activities. Based on a benchmark study done internally, Informix technology is definitely much better than any other databases in the market, regardless of whether we are looking at throughput or price/performance factors. We chose to partner with Informix as it is one of the clear technological leaders in the UNIX market.''
''The growing success of Informix's suite of products is chiefly the result of our ability to deliver industry-leading database technology to meet the current and future needs of customers,'' said Mr. Nelson Wong, Informix's business manager for Indonesia. He went on to add, ''By using Informix's capability to provide a truly interactive experience, Bank Papan is providing added value to its customer base by bringing home the advantages of online banking.''
