Ed - Re: "I do not agree your statement that CPQ is sitting on a big inventory."

Good - if you don't believe me, would you believe some guy by the name of Eckhard Pfeiffer?

techweb.com

Q. You talked about having to clear the channel
of inventory. Can you talk about roughly where
those levels are and what you need to get
moved out?

Pfeiffer: We have been on a pretty steep ramp
throughout the second half of last year in
essentially all product categories. That is
obvious always in leading the demand curve
and then you just watch the demand curve and
see if this stays in line or if it starts spreading
apart and you realize you have a problem. That
is what we have been experiencing during the
first part of the year...February was the key
month to watch to make the judgement call, can
we make it. As we saw more inventory in the
channel we decided to cut back here and stay
on our channel inventory reduction plan.

Re: "I think you also realize that since DEC of 1996, DEC had made money consistently quarter after quarter"

Would you mind telling me exactly how much money DEC made in all these quarters?

Re: "AMD came to a deal with AMD[I think you meant IBM] to process AMD's CPU in its advanced fab, and that National cut a deal with TSMC in Taiwan "

I take it you haven't heard that AMD has had severe yield problems in their MegaFlop 25 and have announced a substantial loss on decreased revenue for this quarter. Perhaps that little clue will tell you why AMD cut a deal with IBM to make their (AMD's) K6 chips.

As for NSM and TSMC - there have been plenty of rumors to this effect - when was it confirmed?

Paul
