Damien: sorry the math is correct. The average (mean) return in 25 years is 12% (you get an average of 12% return) The standard deviation of the mean return for 25 years is lower than the standard deviation of the return in a single year as I explain in detail in the post! Grab any stats book and read about the sample mean. This is called the law of averages.
