Doug - Paul E. and many others are much better versed in INTC than me! Perhaps they can also comment. That said, the unit number for CPQ does not look all that large, I think the real problem could be pricing. If what Pfeiffer is saying holds for the long term (demand on the business side/tough pricing), does that translate into sub 1k corporate PC's (or near 1k) as the new standard? If so, that puts additional pressure on INTC for sure. Maybe it will be more than cancelled out by Merced and the margins there. If that is the case though, it will not be till 1999 or 2000 when Merced really kicks in. Lots of unknowns, one plus is if higher speed net access kicks in via ADSL (being pushed now by INTC/CPQ/MSFT), that could help sell high end cpu's and ease the pressure - although that will not happen this year either...
