Ask for a time stamp on your order. Also, keep in mind, many of these on-line brokerage services do trades off the major exchanges so they can get a bettere execution and net the difference. It amazes me that people actually believe they are getting executions for $12 (or whatever) a trade. They're getting screwed for a 1/8 to 1/2 point on every trade they do! That certainly adds up to far more than a more normal commission on a "good" trade. greg

Jeff, The same thing happened to me this morning. I trade with E-trade and usually get decent confirmation(1-10 minutes). I waited for over an hour for confirmation of a market order on AAPL before canceling. Later I got confirmation that I had filled at 24 3/16 shortly after placing the order. Guess what? AAPL dropped to 22 11/16. E-trade's answer: Sorry, it's the MM's fault. How about we credit you with a free trade? I couldn't cancel the trade, couldn't sell the stock when it began to slip at 24 1/4, couldn't use the money somewhere else! Thanks E-trade.....
