Bill -

I don't know of a real formula for coercivity requirements
given a certain areal density, but that doesn't mean
there isn't one. What I usually reference is some info
HMTT furnished back a few Qs ago:

Coercivity GB/disk
1800 0.5GB
2000 - 2100 1+GB
2200 - 2400 1.2 - 1.6GB
2400 - 2500 1.7 - 2.1GB
2700 2.X GB
2800 3.5GB
3000 4.4GB

I kinda keep checking up on this table every time I see a reference, and it seems close, but no guarantees.

I've also never seen any info that would tell me what the area is for a 3.5" disk. I think i depends on layout, bearing sizewhether they use a landing zone, etc, whether they use a landing zone, etc. It varies from one maker to another, but roughly it's about 11.25in^2 per 2 sided platter. I've heard that the 5.25" platter has 1.9X the area of a 3.5" platter.

These are all rough, but the best I've got.

Sorry, no exact #s... BTW, I'd love for someone in the know to let me know...
