Nikkei English News via NewsEdge
Corporation : TOKYO (Nikkei)--Pioneer
Electronic Corp. (6773) plans to expand its
European manufacture and sales of set-top
boxes (STBs) for receiving digital satellite
broadcasts.

The company already supplies STBs for
French and Spanish satellite broadcasting
and plans to add Italy to the list as early as
April.

Pioneer currently manufactures basic
components for STBs at its Shizuoka
Prefecture factory, shipping the parts to a
U.K.-based audiovisual-equipment subsidiary
for assembly.

To lower costs, Pioneer plans to invest
several hundred million yen in fiscal 1998 to
integrate parts production and assembly at
the U.K. facility and triple production there,
to roughly 80,000 units per month.

The company estimates its fiscal 1997 STB
sales at just over 1 million units and is
targeting sales of about 1.2 million units in
fiscal 1998.

David, << dvd on amazon >>

I try to be funny and I learn something! Will check it out. Hey,
it's a beginning. I've heard there's not much on dvd's yet, but
that it's expected to be a strong upside late 98.
On the sideline: Watching CNBC and Alex Brown is downgrading
CPQ and Dell. Duh, such brilliance! Wonder when they sold theirs and
are they now ready to buy?
