Dear M.F. Jay:
Your response to my message #375 was very surprising, interesting, and revealing.
The reason for sending you that quick note was to share my thinking with you about an issue of which you admitted being completely clueless. You phrased your comment this way:
"Don't know anything about the Lawsuits. All companies have insurance to cover these anyway."
The note you received was pretty benign. It asked you an opening question; it included my opinion; and it asked you an open ended question for your thoughts. Pretty harmless stuff in my book.
Therefore, paragraph one of your reply caught me by surprise. It was a very direct, forceful, and focused piece of diction. If my digital memory serves me correctly you told me:
"You have the right to post whatever you wish on this board and to whomever you wish. However, I will kindly ask you to refrain from posting to me in the future and I will tell you now that I will no longer respond to anything you do post to me."
Being direct and straightforward, as you were, wins points for style.
Now while I may still be striving to become the sharpest knife in the drawer, I must admit that your paragraph 1 did give me a heads up as to what might be coming in your paragraph 2. Paragraph 2 was . . . wellllll . . . it was kinda interesting.
For the rest of you that may have missed it, M.F. put it this way:
"I have read all the messages on the YAHOO board and you stated in one of them that you post overthere under the name of "togr". I came to this board because I wished to have intelligent questions and answers regarding investments. I have seen far too many MM's on other boards and that in itself it bad enough. But I do not condon bashing of personal religious beliefs because they are just that "personal" You Sir have done this on YAHOO and as a result, I have no interest in any discouse with you or from you whatsoever of any kind."
I have to tell you, that paragraph 2 really gave me cause to question some things. I had to just sit back and ask myself why would this person say these things?
Well M.F. Jay, do you remember the part about your message being revealing? You may wish to declare yourself a winner, right now, and go to the next message; because you might be embarrassed by what follows.
Here's a substantive suggestion; since your opening paragraph was so terrific, so straight to the point; you should have stopped right then. You would have achieved maximum impact. Sign off right then . . . ol' M.F. Jay. Now that would have been powerful.
Unfortunately, you succumbed to the temptation to really heap it on (i.e. paragraph 2), but in so doing, you have diluted your message and exposed yourself to well-deserved criticism. Points gained in the beginning are lost in the end, and then some. Please allow me to explain.
Why in the world would I ever want to state (as you claim) in a message on a Yahoo board, what my Yahoo handle is? Even if I did, that wouldn't give you a clue as to my SI identity. (iow, you would be clueless, again.) Duh!
Then you tell me you came to SI because you ' . . . wished to have intelligent questions and answers regarding investments.' Am I to understand that my message #375 to you asking a question, tendering possible answers, and soliciting your opinions about a legitimate business issue runs afoul of the purpose of SI and your reason for being here?
What I find to be most peculiar is 'when' you decided to pursue the high moral ground. You know, away from the 'bashing' I believe is what you called it. According to your profile you have been a member since February 23 and your first post ever was to DIGL at 09:26. Since you "have read all the messages on the Yahoo board", you will recall my message made 2 days earlier on February 21 providing you and everyone else with the links to come over here:

By your own words, this is what you expect us to believe:
You come here to SI to to have intelligent questions and answers, but you ignore same.

You know my SI handle is 'squirrel', because you claim that I said my Yahoo handle is 'togr'.
By factoring in the timing of events, this is what I see:
You came over here right after finding out from me that this is where I come.
You came here not to get away from me, but to follow me.
You came here not to get away from 'bashing', but to get some unwarranted 'licks' in of your own.
You chose SI rather than Yahoo so that you could give notice, to those that didn't already know, as to my Yahoo handle. What's the big deal? Why concoct a lie when the truth will do? Such as, "I know that you post as 'togr' over on Yahoo, and I disagree blah, blah, blah." (Which by the way, for the 1 or 2 of you that are not already reading that Yahoo board, read it and decide for yourself which one of us is telling the truth and who is doing the bashing.) Of course none of us knows know what the M.F. Jay is saying over there because he is lying low and not really interested in contributing.
You probably still don't have a clue how this makes you look.
It is OK to possess passion, but passion without principle borders on evil. (Just look at what is happening tonight on the Yahoo board.) Every time a man suffocates the Truth, every time he extinguishes Dialogue, every time he abandons his Principles; he tarnishes his Soul a little more. Someday M.F. Jay you may reflect on these words and choose to join those of us that are in a search for the Truth. In the meantime, anything less than an apology from you to me will be meaningless and ineffectual.
