Excerpt off DJ News:

<<Mike Mayo, a banking analyst at Credit Suisse First Boston, is telling his clients that the Year 2000 problem is good in the short run for some bank stocks because it serves as a merger catalyst. Acquisitive banks must act in the next six months(emphasis added) or so to avoid business and operational headaches created by systems integration. They may also have to jump now to avoid being slowed down by federal regulators, who may begin denying mergers if they detect potential Year 2000 computer problems at combined institutions. Houston and Los Angeles are two areas in which to look for merger opportunities, he says in a report sent to clients last week.>>

We are in for some interesting times, indeed.
