I thought Bear Stearns downgraded DELL today before this conference call to market perform! So they apparently did not call DELL and do their research before downgrading them on what is essentially CPQ's news.

There have been no utterances from DELL to indicate that they are expecting 15-20% growth that a "market perform" rating would indicate.

re: At least Bear Stearns is RESEARCHING before making a call.

This is a good point. Analysts get paid to evaluate a situation and make a recommendation. The analyst at Robert Stephens, Took a quick look, cut his EPS EST for DELL in 199 and 2000, and lowered his rating on the stock.

If Bear cuts tomorrow AM, It would appear to me that the RS guy did a better job. I guess that is the Risk he is taking. That is He is about 10% ahead of the guy that moves tomorrow if he is right. If he is wrong, eh.. He can say he got concerned, a bird in hand kinda statement.

So how about that 9 % drop today, wasn't the stock supposed to go up the day it split?
Guess that Late Friday afternoon report did not carry the weight the Bull expected it to.

Just gloating a little, I will probably eat dirt tomorrow :)
