<Please explain or provide more information on:

... Lamda fell down since they provided poor service (hey what was a day or two of downtime)

... Laser replacement cost is 50K$/3mos

Is first statement in reference to the Lambda Physik DUV laser? And if so, was it in connection with pre-production testing, or what?

Does second statement mean that Cymer's 260 DUV lasers now in fabs will produce $50K X 260 = $13 million every three months in replacement parts revenue?

The first comment was related to Lamda Physik poisoning their own well with initial DUV laser for lithography years ago which they have not recovered from yet. They had good reputation for technology and did ok supporting research lab type customers, they did not realize that semi litho fabs required a next higher level of service. When the system is down, the stepper is not printing money (just like a 747 only makes money in the air!), Lamda had poor response time to down systems (as well as safety concerns, high voltages, toxic gas handling). CYMI capitalized on these shortcomings , my contacts reported, by good service and modifying the design for safe / convenient industrial application. My (ongoing) concern is that CYMI pay attention to service as a barrier to competitor penetration. I believe this is particularly important in Asia which has higher service standards.

Second comment. Yes 13M$/3mos if the 260 lasers are off warranty. This price was 2x what customers are used to from I line experience. Separately Asian customers thought lifetime should be 2x longer at 6mos.
