Patrick,

If the analyst is headed down the wrong road with his opinion, it might make some sense to have a private chat with him/her. Indeed, this could be the case. But if it is NEW news it should be released to everyone at once to avoid insider trading charges.

DELL has not released anything that could be interpreted as bearing negative on their revenue or earnings growth rate. In fact they have done just the opposite. Thus, I suspect nothing has changed except the CPQ news has once again been used to drive DELL down if only for a few hours or days.

The interesting news here is that DELL is in the primary position to benefit from this CPQ inventory/BTO constipation. I see no relief from this anytime soon for CPQ. However, DELL can move out quickly with its new state of the art product. So this is really good news for DELL.

Regards,

Jim Kelley

The WSJ article today compared DELL and CPQ and stated that Ekhard has been wanting a BTO model since 1994 and now it is 1998 and he is still fighting his own disloyal troops. So no relief is in sight for CPQ just continuing pressure from HWP, IBM and Bell in the retail and commercial channels. Mason is comming off as a survivor instead of a timely reporter of CPQ financial news. I do not think that Meredith will want to follow in his footsteps. Hence, I believe that DELL's story is more than intact and indeed it is a main beneficiary of CPQ's bad news.
