3COM Weather Report: Don't expect to hear from Dick Smith or
US Robotics. The Weather Channel is reporting that 80% of the
people are without power in Skokie, IL. and this morning's winds
toppled trees on Lawndale Road in Skokie. Meanwhile in Chi Town:

Winter returns with a vengeance

CHICAGO, March 9 - A massive winter storm hit the Chicago area today,
shutting down the airports and knocking down trees and power poles.
More than a quarter-million people around Chicago have been left without power and heat.

And now for something completely the same:

Severe weather hits Florida again

March 9, 1998 - The latest round of tornadoes and thunderstorms to
tear across Florida is blamed for at least one death and 14 injuries.
The overnight storms damaged retirement communities, mobile home parks
and campgrounds across central and south Florida. One traffic death in
Tallahassee is blamed on the weather, which knocked a tree into the
roadway. One person was hospitalized after 12 homes were damaged near
Lake Wales in Polk County. Farther south, ten people were injured when
several recreational vehicles were overturned by a tornado or strong
winds at the KOA campground in Okeechobee. County schools are closed
for the day. The downpours began before dawn and flooded streets and
overturned a truck on Interstate 95 near Miami. Street flooding was
also reported in Pasco County .

Chicago Public Schools CEO Paul Vallas says the system will close
down over 100 schools Tuesday because of power outages

A one-two punch of wet, heavy snow and powerful winds hit power lines
hard. At one point, some 310,000 homes, schools, and businesses had no
electricity. Areas north of Chicago saw the most power outages, with over
100,000 customers in the cold.
Thousands of people have been without heat for 13 hours now. ComEd says
it hopes to restore most of the power by Wednesday.
