Ken:

Here in Chicago I am taking advantage of a $79 monthly rate for the following:

1000 FREE digital cellular airtime
Unlimited Direct Connect
Group conferencing @ 12 cent/min.
Unlimited paging
50 text messages; 10 cents per message thereafter
Voicemail - included
Free Caller-ID

If you take the flat $45 direct connect service as a given, this plan means Nextel is not shy about aggressively playing against the big boys fighting it out in retail-land. The 1000 digital cellular minutes are an effective 3.5 cents per minute for about 1/2 hour per day of air time. Not bad. Advantage Nextel.

Wait until they start inducing people to use their group conferencing mode more. This will be hard to put down once they zero in on this niche. Users tend to avoid the group mode because of the multiplication of charges that accrue. Like digital cellular minutes being marked down, this too will change.

Six new i600 units are arriving to my office this week, hopefully.

Good luck!
