David, When you talk about C-Cube having an advantage you need to be comparing the appropriate items. In this case it is the codec and not their traditional line of encoders. Otherwise, I don't understand. MPEG-2 being a standard means that regardless of the process of encoding (which can differ greatly in terms of efficiency and fidelity) that the resulting output to a DVD-Rom has a fixed and independent meaning, hence decodable by any MPEG-2 decoder. The way I understand it the compatibility issue comes up in the integrated code/decode environment of DVD-RAM or DVD RW. I thought that was what Kaufman was referring to. In that case all those DVD encoders that C-Cube has shipped out don't give it an advantage. I apologize if I am missing something obvious here. You are more than welcome to set me straight. The last thing I will object to is something that gives us an advantage. --Joe
