Most informative article on Red Chips. It was the "parents" that got
me interested in HSBC in 1985 and in CITIC (267) back in 1991.
(I still own both, as "child" and "parents" are both doing fine.<g>)

Same with China Everbright (165) or one of its' other brothers.

I do not recall that Stone (409) has any direct links to good
parents, but as I recall, they have good relations with some
very influential "Uncles" both at the local Beijing level & at
the ministry level.

The current reforms are encouraging competition. Just having the right
"relations" will not assure success. A company still must perform
well & manage wisely.

Still, knowing which companies have been favored in the past is a good
starting point for researching what to buy.
