aki,

Re:u do care because the point is that the intc customers are coming back and demanding discounts to compete with the non intc boxmakers and industry margins have fallen to the point where intel might be the only large manu making decent and now shrinking profits out of the pomme frite bizzz

Actually, I do care. Though I am an INTC shareholder(I've pared my INTC holdings down to a few shares) I want to see competition in the marketplace. If INTC has its ASP at $800 for their chips, of course unit demand will be less than if AMD enters the picture and forces their ASP down. Econ 101. We should want to see an increase in unit demand w/o a significant impact on margins, not an increase in prices, afterall, we do own equipment stocks don't we?? Well, some of us. Once INTC learns the ways of the sub-$1K market, it's theirs for the taking IMO. Now there is some ST pain.
Even if INTC does not come in with the GM's of 60% of previous qtrs, they will still be in business and probably be very successful. Call it a hunch<GGG>
