I don't know about that, the Compaq conference call on Friday sounded like a declaration of war to me. Intel COULD be the winner (higher volumes), but I doubt if you'd see it until 2nd quarter. My own view is that its going to be a rough 1st half for EVERYONE in the PC business.

Brian - Actually, the cost of the merger between CPQ/DEC goes down with each drop in CPQ price. The merger has a fixed ratio of stock/cash, so if CPQ pays with cheaper shares they make out. Now, if it goes low enough, that may not make the DEC shareholders very happy...

Why start a price war ? Just buy less CPUs in the next quarter and let the inventory digest by
itself !!!
