No they dont! Its against morals and laws etc etc etc..

Last Jul I had some IOM I bought around 18, Since I was going for a few weeks I placed a stop limit sell order for $20.. The stock was trading around 21-23 range. Can you find that price ($20) looking at the charts for the month of JUL 97 on IOM?
Sure you can, If you look carefully enough, see that spike down? Yep there goes my shares...

Scott, you post makes it sound like the MM are a different entity that the broker. Most large firms have a market making division. As well, many firms nondiscrimintorily route their orders to these mm/brokers for order flow compensation, hence the $9.00 dollar trade.
