Joey - Re: "Intel Reveals How Merced Will Retain X86 Compatibility"

For what the article says, it is quite accurate.

The Merced is a new architecture with the old x86 architecture blended in along side the EPIC IA-64.

The article mentioned "adders and floating-point units".

What it did not mention was that the Merced will have FOUR PARALLEL Floating point PIPELINES - capable of performing 4 FPU operations simultaneously.

This capability is targeted toward the Workstation market - and heavy-duty "power users".

A lot of horsepower will be available on that chip!
