Hi John. Here is an interesting reply to a post.

Message 3651740

I also read that 36% non Intel in Jan.98 there vs. 7% in the first qtr. in 97. I think that comparison was a little on the confusing side once I read the rest of the related posts.

But I did read and heard commentary today that CPQ could have shot themselves in the foot with all those low priced PCs. You have to sell a lot of PCs to make a good profit when prices are so low.

Like the CFO of CPQ said over a week ago: We had a competitive Jan. and with no profit to show it must have been even more competitive in Feb. and they must be worrying about March. I have no idea why Intel dropped that much compared to CPQ. Even with a 10% shortfall, Intel is still having a profit. And Dell is selling all Intel and experiencing no pattern change from prior sales.

I guess we have to see how it all works out and buy when the opportunity arises. You are right. It may end up to be a buyers paradise until those cos. find out that it does not pay to make no profit. I am sure Dell will not drop like the rest of these cos.
FAMOUS LAST WORDS.
