You know, I realize that I complained about the name, but the more I think about these SMOs, the more I realize what a powerful tool they are for internet commerce. I'm not aware of anything comparable out there -- is anyone else? It gives Wave the potential to make the entire Internet an extension of the GSN. It's pretty cool technology.

What's got me thinking about it is this paragraph from today's press release (which is essentially a re-hash of last week's info):

<<Last week, Wave announced technology upgrades to the Great Stuff Network, including the Self-Merchandising Object (SMO) secure wrapper. A SMO is a portable, purchasable object that can be posted anywhere on the Web. The SMO's ''post-anywhere'' capability delivers a consistent merchandising experience wherever it's accessed by consumers. An ad banner could reference a SMO, for example, allowing a publisher to set up a ''mini'' virtual storefront wherever ad space is purchased.>>

Spend some time meditating on the possibilities of this. Then fast-forward to the time when there's a wide base of installed WaveMeters. Gets your heart pumping.
