No nothing of BEAM, but welcome aboard, now it is time for bed! Couldn't resist posting #4300 though.

Where'd He Go?,
Nice name.:=,>
I have been an investor in VISX for a while so I have some knowledge of the industry. BEAM (Summit Technologies) is a competitor of VISX. The two companies are the principals of Pillar Point Partners which is a vehicle for collecting royalties on certain laser procedures. The two companies have long sordid histories and have been suing each other on and off for years. VISX is professionally managed, has a huge cash horde and is by far the superior company. BEAM has been grossly mismanaged in the past although I must confess I have not reviewed current management. In the past the rocket scientists at BEAM tried to start their own eye surgery centers, something they had no experience in and therby directly competing with their customers. Not smart. i don't know whether they have divested that business.
I have considered VISX for the model and in the past it has been a mediocre performer for me (I have an average cost of $21). Lately the stock has performed well and I am being rewarded for my patience. The procedures are safe and the rampup is accellerating. Maybe there is a lesson here for GENZL.

Although I think both companies will benefit from the growing acceptance of laser eye surgery I would stay away from BEAM. My target on VISX is $40.
