Fred and ALL, Article...Intel Buys Stake In Terminal Maker..

Terminal replacement manufacturer Network Computing Devices Inc. announced today that it has reached a three-year agreement with Intel Corp. to produce computing devices based on Intel's Lean Client guidelines.

As part of the deal, Intel has made an investment in NCD that will provide Intel with a 4.4 percent stake in the hardware manufacturer. The overall value of the deal, which included the purchase of 750,000 shares of NCD stock, was not disclosed.

Late last year, Intel announced its intentions to provide scaled-down microprocessors for so-called lean client devices. Equipped with modest amounts of memory, lean client computers are designed to replace terminals currently attached to mainframes, as well as PCs that are connected to high-powered servers that distribute applications across corporate networks.

In a separate announcement, NCD said the company anticipates lower revenue and modest losses for the coming quarter. The deal with Intel will not have an impact on NCD's current quarter, said NCD officials.
