Brief ZIP / ZAZ2 Story...

As most of you know by now I live in a small city in Argentina... About as far from the "HIGH TECH." world as you can get. That is why I think Storys like the following are so interesting... I can tell you for sure if the kind of things I'm about to describe are happening here they're happening in the U.S. and Europe X 10...

I just got back from having laser surgery done on my eyes at the eye clinic here. The clinic has all of the latest gear and was crammed with computer equipment... I happened to notice that one of the computers had a SYQUEST drive in it and asked the technician why they used SYQUEST. He said... "Oh, that piece of junk quit working months ago... We now use CD-R and IOMEGA ZIP". After digging a bit I found out that they had 4 SYQUEST drives and had tons of equipment problems and had trouble getting disks. They also had a big problem sharing information as they couldn't find anyone else that used SYQUEST. They've been using ZIP drives and CD-R for the last 6 months and swear by them... They did say that the cost was a little high... ZIP drives go for about $250 here and a single ZIP disk runs $20!!! I travel to the U.S. 3 or 4 times a year and have agreed to bring back 50 disks each time I come back to sell to them at U.S. cost.

He said they have ordered 4ea. ZAZ2 and can't wait for them to arrive.

As I was getting my eyes ZAPPED I noticed a Japanese gentleman standing in the corner taking pictures. Turns out he is here studying some new laser techniques... He was using a Sony MAVIK digital camera to take pictures. I asked him how he liked it and he said "Vellly Vellly good... but not enough memory to store good pictures. I told him about CLIK! and he said he thought that sounded "Vellly intelesting..." :-)

FWIW... I found the above significant...
