Too bad Reuters didn't--like most news organizations do when competing new releases cross an editorial desk--also include information on the ESVS deal. This surprises me because it makes the Reuter's story out of date the moment it was distributed. For it to be viewed as news today, is even more misleading.

Reuters, as is the normal practice with news organizations that receive its news from many sources, should have lifted excerpts from both stories (the Wired one and the ESVS/Zulu news release). Reuters then should have followed up with confirmatory check for facts and to clear up possible contradictions, and maybe even an updated quote from the principals involved in the news story.

Had Reuters done this--as it, AP, UPI and others have been doing for decades in news journalism--it would have provided its readership with a better balanced picture of the events.

Instead, we just got another dose of Wired negativity. Ironically, Reuters slipped up in a manner similar to what Wired has accused Zulu of concerning ill-timed or confused announcements. You see, by 2:30 yesterday afternoon (the date and time on Reuters' release) there was a whole 'nother situation in effect in the real world--and this is especially true today.

Hopefully, Reuters will catch up with the rest of the world and make sure its reporting, in full, gets to the AOL company news release board. Talk about recycling the wrong stuff? Gees, even Matty's comments would have been different if comments were elicited by him near the 2:30 afternoon mark.
