NORWOOD, Mass., March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) today introduced new members of the ADSP-218x family of digital signal processors (DSP), including the world's smallest DSP. The ADSP-2183, ADSP-2187L and ADSP-2189L DSPs enable portable consumer electronics to be reduced in size while increasing processing speeds, extending operating time and reducing production costs.

The ADSP-2183 is approximately 50% smaller than any other DSP available.........

Another strong day today.

My take on "what's up" is that ADI is finally seeing the end of its Rodney Dangerfield era. They are fast becoming a formidable competitor on the DSP front and show great promise in DSL. Worthy of an investment in its own right.

Then again, somebody may see them as a juicy takeover candidate. This is purely my own speculation, but if I were a Lucent with 28% of the DSP market (and lots of richly valued stock currency) interested in knocking TI (45% of DSPs) out of it's #1 spot, ADI's 12% would look mighty tempting. Needles to say, there are other viable suitors in the picture....ADI looks ripe for the plucking.
