"The new Motorola-based Amati products are expected to meet the established DMT standards set by the ANSI and ETSI committees. Amati owns the patents on the standards for implementation of ADSL/DMT. Based on the license agreement between Amati and Motorola and with the support of the Amati design team, Motorola was able to announce the release of an ADSL/DMT integrated circuit to the market in early 1997. It will be built specifically to support DMT standard requirements." Steve I know Amati IS TXN , I said the same thing...but only different <gg> in my previous post. It was you that said in post #2848:<...what does TXN do about this...> Market & compete? You may even want to look at my post #2846. Now note what I cut/paste above, it said in the news release "Motorola-based Amati products" NOT Amati licensed algorithum based Motorola products. Okay, hopefully that's all clear...so I move on. MOT has their modem division up for sale with no takers the last I heard, so I see them not being active in the manufacturing & marketing of modems. However, MOT is active in the chip business. You said: " Amati and MOT now have virtually no link - other than the MOT tone-swapping licensing. " Let's say that is correct, and assume that the CopperGold product has a DSP which is Flash Ram driven and downloading new software (firmware?) can improve the performance of the product in the future. With all that in mind...is MOT going to be happy doing business with Amati in the future? OR Does MOT start eyeballing AWRE? What about TXN, 3Com, ROK, LU, ADI & others? I see AWRE as a fly on a branch with a bunch of lizards like Louie & Frank from the Bud Ads sitting around looking at AWRE...sooner or later some two foot long tongue is going to snatch that morsal up...but who...OR, who won't? Look at all the TMS320x2 DSP chips TXN sold by partnering with USR and the market share ROK lost in modem chips. The protocol sells chips. My coffee is wearing off now....later.
