Newbridge Affiliates Create Video Powerhouse
OTTAWA, ONTARIO--The Board of Directors of Telexis
Corporation and Televitesse Systems Inc., two Newbridge(r)
Affiliates, today approved a letter of intent for merging the
businesses of the two companies. In a move to combine the
respective leading edge technologies in video solutions and
telecommunications, Telexis will lever the combined research
and development efforts to deliver multimedia server products
and applications to the carrier and enterprise markets.
This video force will be uniquely positioned to meet the
burgeoning demand for faster, more cost-effective and higher
quality multimedia communications. The advent of streaming
video technologies and their integration with traditional,
Internet-based services such as E-commerce, requires a
flexible media delivery platform. This new platform will
enable corporations to build services and communicate with
customers in a dramatically more flexible way, with freedom
from single-vendor dependence. The strength of the video team
enables the company to capitalize on these technological and
market trends to deliver superior multimedia platforms that
are standards compliant and platform independent.
Eli Fathi, Telexis President stated, "In order to achieve
a leading position as a provider of networked video products,
we need to accelerate
our response to growing customer needs for a broad range of multimedia
services. Televitesse's investment in multimedia technology will accelerate
our time to market. In combining the expertise of Televitesse and Telexis,
we are creating a video powerhouse which will be strongly positioned to
capitalize on the huge market opportunities our technology addresses."
Newbridge Networks Corporation Chairman Terry Matthews noted that, "The
synergy derived from the combined resources of these two Newbridge
Affiliates will enhance the Company's commitment to delivering total
solutions. The full potential of the company's applications can best be
achieved when a carrier-class multimedia platform is available to deliver a
networked solution to our clients. The Telexis networked video technology
meets that objective."
In 1992, Newbridge Networks initiated a strategy of establishing and
investing in affiliate companies. This strong and growing family of
technology companies offers products and services that are complementary to
Newbridge's core business. With more than 1,500 employees and an estimated
market value of more than $1 billion, Newbridge Affiliates have combined
annual revenue of more than $300 million.
Telexis Corporation, which is headquartered in Ottawa, Canada, is a world
leader in providing networked video solutions. The Company develops,
manufactures and markets sophisticated video, audio and image processing
products for the telecommunications, security and remote monitoring
markets. Telexis' platform is network-ready and enables video services to
be carried seamlessly over existing and emerging telecommunications
networks, with minimal additional infrastructure investment required.
Televitesse Systems Inc. designs and builds network video and media
solutions for today's information society. Its flagship product, accesTV,
is recognized as state-of-the-art for real time searching, profiling and
