Herb Greenberg talks about AVEI in his daily column in The Street. Com.

His main points

1. Bear Stern analyst upgraded the stock based on better than expected sales, but...

2. The analyst is skeptical on how AVEI can grow rapidly next year given the entry of competitors (eg. Boston Scientific), sees stent price under pressure in 1999. Hence, AVEI margin as well.

3. Herb question the wisdom on recommending a stock which may end up in trouble 12 months from now. Because investors will have to jump ship at the right time.

4. Herb also point out that AVEI's current valuation is about twice the size of the entire US stent market.

Leading edge medical technology stocks should continue to be market leaders, and I remain very bullish on AVEI. I also like VITAL IMAGES (VTAL- 1 7/8 BID) which has software which would permit VIRTUAL COLONOSCOPIES (evaluating the colon without the need to insert a scope!). When the technology of VIRTUAL COLONOSCOPIES gets discussed in the mass media, IMO, VTAL could have a huge upside move. Presently VTAL is selling slightly above cash.
