18acastra, is it easier to type "no" for answer after you skim thru my post than sit down, think about it, and ask for sources. You listened but you didn't "hear" me.

Don't ask me if I "hear" you or not. I came from your school of thinking (supply/demand, news/fear) but I, well, evolved.

(I hope I don't get a "no" for an answer this time)

Just try this exercise. Pretend that you are the speciaist/MM of an particular stock. You have the power to:
1. Move prices unilaterally.
2. Sell short on down-ticks.
What would you do to maximize your gains as well as your firm and related firms? Is it buy low sell high? If so, how can you go low without attracting big sell volume until prices are at your preferred buy range? You have to move it lower a bit at a time, using short term rallies to unload those inventory that you pick up (stops/limits and sell orders) prior to the big volume that you look for. You fill your long-term investment accounts with stock. Then give yourself a year and 6 months (long-term cap gains)to rally and unload the investment account(s) for long term gains.
