The single biggest factor which makes today resemble 1991 - 1994 is the price war. This factor alone far outweighs any windows 98, etc. A price war will and does destroy profit margins. Furthermore, a price war lasts many many months and all will suffer while it is fought. Profit margins are forfeited today in the hopes of greater market share in the future. We have seen this scenario played out before with devastating results. The players today are bigger stronger and will not give up the ship as easily as some of small players of 5 - 7 years ago. In fact, lets face it - are you ever going to hear a dell shareholder say that dell will lose that war? How about an ibm or compaq shareholder? Will they ever say that they will lose that war? Or how about hwp shareholder? Of course not, they all want to believe that they will win. But guess what. Somebody's going to lose!! That is a given.
