Gerald -- taking remediative steps while you wait for Schwab to die pig die ...

If you want to get a trade off at market because you are afraid the price will run from you, place the trade above ask at the highest tolerable price. They are required to execute overbids at ask anyway, so you are legally no worse off by highballing. And if they are going to screw you anyway, at least you have given them an upper limit, and taken away their motivation to hold your trade forever.

Generally, though, if you are trading at market you are behind the eight ball with any third-person trading firm. Pay the extra bucks for a reputable discount firm that has strong links with their floor service, then take a vacation while your portfolio moves. Just do it.

Gerald,

I know what you are going through. I had Schwab as a broker for more than a year and have horror stories that would put the one which you related to shame.

Do yourself a favor, don't try to change Schwab. You're wasting your time. Change brokers. There are dozens of brokers out there with better service and much lower commissions.

Good Luck

Bruce
