3COM Weather Report (Dick Smith returned to Chicagoland version) Sorry to be missing... here's a short version of the story: My wife, who is the "medical advocate" for her 95-year-old grandfather, got a call on sunday night, telling her to come to Detroit at once, and then another one which reduced the urgency of the trip, but still made it necessary. I got on the net and booked flights for both of us, while she called some of the other relatives on the other line. Then I got off the computer so she could start emailing in to her editor as much of her work as she could get ready that night.... We had her booked on a 10AM flight, and me on the last one monday night. By monday morning La Nina was upon us, and there were about six inches of snow here, and O'Hare was moving very slowly... her flight was cancelled, and she was rebooked for 2PM. I shoveled enough walk for her to get out, and left for the office. Coworkers coming from the south weren't making it... we heard that in the southwestern suburbs there was over a foot... but otherwise functioning as normal. I arranged to take the next couple of days off, and tried to get someone else ready to go to a customer lab for testing on tuesday with software I'd been working on over the weekend. My wife called from O'Hare, first from the terminal, and later from her plane (sitting in the "penalty box") to report progress. She got in a plane at about 5pm, and finally got to Detroit at almost 9. Since I was due in at 11, she decided to wait for me, rather than driving to our hotel room and coming back. My 8:30pm flight left somewhat after 9, and then spent an hour taxiing around O'Hare before we managed to take off. Actual arrival in Detroit about midnight; light snow, but not bad. I spent 3 days in major internet withdrawal... doing what needed to be done. Return thursday night was routine and uneventful 1 hour flight. Snow in driveway looks shorter, stuff shoveled on monday is still clear, so no new snow... incoming 200+ emails, as expected. 3Com shares no higher than when I left... market moldering. When's earnings? Dick
