Bobby,

A good point to keep in mind is the primary responsibility in the dissemination of company information by any IR department is to their employers and the SEC, NOT the shareholders. That's why IR will defend management and give rationalized reasons why they deserve their salaries, bonuses, yada yada.

Clarifying information within SEC limits, pacifying the personal quirks/dictates of management and dodging bullets is really what IR does. It's high stress with no real control or authority. A tough gig indeed. Still, management's aloof posture and lush compensation has certainly done nothing to make IR's job easier.

My disappointment is in the spinning innuendos of prosperity around the corner as far back as 2 1/2 years ago with the MCI deal that never came to be. This is where many of us got hurt buying in after that bogus run up. Since then, it's been one empty spin after another. At this point, there is no credibility. A very simple case of sow and reap.

This is where a new direction by people like Cannavino will hopefully restore color to this pallid, weakened virtue.
