Barry, Re: "Celeron could be a bomb, but it is only a place holder for "Mediceno", which should be
reasonable."

It is my understanding that Celeron is a "family" of P II chips, and both Covington and Mendocino are in that family.

Barry,
RE:"The K-6 is is a reasonable chip, but it's no match for a PII/266
with AGP and an I740 graphics chip."
Better check the benchmarks of that i740. It's middle of the road at best.

re: <<I think that socket 7 will die, but it won't be because of Celeron, it will be because of standard PII/266s (with cache) at $200 or thereabouts. Which is supposed to happen in April or May.>>

I think this is INTC's bet. If slot 1 (which has no fundamental advantage over socket 7) Can severly crimp the supply of cheeper socket 7 MotherB's AMD's K chips will loose and INTC will be able to charge what they want for their Propitary stuff.

History tells us that odds are not in INTC's favor on this one. Pricing on Cele-wrong will be crutial. It will have to be priced below P mmx's because of the add cost of the Slot 1 Mother board. As one report I read, INTC has their marketing work cut out for them.

In the long run Cele-wrong, IOM, will hurt the bottom line more than help it.
