Tom,
We have held Merck since the early seventies.
I have said before that the dividend is now
close to half of what we paid(for many years
we reinvested all, but now I only reinvest
on the dividend shares and not the original ones.)
The dividend shares are more than 1/4 of the total.
Splits only add more shares worth the same thing.
If the market ever reverts to "normal," all of this
rediculous dividend hype will cause people lots of pain.

i believe Berkshire Hathaway has never split and essentially is a closed-end fund. the last quote that i can find for it is $60,000 per share.

although Warren Buffet may not be the CEO of Merck, if its stock can do the same thing, i don't think i care if it ever splits again.
