Peter Goss - RE: Financial reporting

Peter,

Thought you might find the following of interest. I found it on the MTY Yahoo thread.

===================================================================

Just to clarify....

Many small companies need the full 45 days at the end of a quarter and the 90 days at the end of their fiscal year in which to prepare to announce their results and to prepare their reports for the SEC. As a guy who spent years as the Chief Financial Officer of a series of small-cap companies, I can assure you that this is not something that is done "between daybreak and dawn".

This is especially true at year-end, when the company's outside auditors come in and carry out the annual audit. Year-end
preparation generally takes 2-3 weeks and then the audit can take another 2 weeks. Running everything past the audit committee of the
Board can take another week or so, and then one gets into the actual preparation of the Report 10-K, press releases, etc. It is
wild...and it ain't fun...especially when you are also taking calls from investors asking when it will be done....

I distinctly remember some guy, years ago, who called me on the phone and who felt that it all should take 2-3 weeks... "and couldn't I put a couple of my young MBA's onto the job..." In actuality, I only had an accounting manager and a couple of clerks to help me with all this stuff.

And that is the way it really is....
