I agree that the question of oil or gas is superfluous, since they can go down dip on the next well to pick up the oil zone. My preference to gas, aside from heating considerations, is that it's a non-OPEC energy form and not susceptible to all the manipulations of a cartel dominated commodity. It's also very seasonally priced which can be an advantage via forward sales. The issue of the rights is partly one of misinformation. Many US shareholders don't realize they can sell these rights into the market, since they can't exercise them. That should keep prices down absent a big price move in the underlying shares. Indeed, the STF rights today were offered at $0.01 with no bid for a short period. That was after someone hammered out the « cent bid. I have to confess that for everything I've heard, these rights are somewhat tempting at those low prices, as a very short-term spec on the play. Whether we'll get enough info prior to monthend is another matter. Long term investors should continue accumulating CWQ (and BEA/STF if one likes that flavor), IMO.
