Longster, I noticed your comments in Yahoo. You are partly right.

Yes, this was reported out of context to the extent that it was part of a lengthy discussion during a patient consultation. But it was correct as I stated it. A causal relationship is not what was intended. The comment was that he had a couple of patients who following Rituxan treatment got tuberculosis. While this is unsubstantiated being pixels on a screen, you can contact Dr Saven of Scripps Clinic in San Diego who told me that. Since it is not part of a doctor-patient relationship he is perfectly free to comment on his experiences with Rituxan and will no doubt do so in his professional capacity as an expert on lymphoma.

But your conclusion is correct in my interpretation of his comments. That is that he was giving examples of why he would not want to use Rituxan in an off-label application for an intermediate grade patient.

There was no suggestion of a causal relationship other than the idea already canvassed that the absence of B-cells leaves opportunistic infections an open highway. Which is to some extent a causal relationship, though somebody without the infective agent wouldn't get the infection. He did not mean if you use Rituxan you'll get tuberculosis.

I hope this is clear as I wouldn't want my comments pumped up into something more than they are. Your moderating comments appreciated. But I stand by my comments as being correct.

Maurice
