Mike, I have been following I*, GSTRF, and LOR for a few months now on SI. On the other threads, there has been talk of a second generation I* going to CDMA. Can't confirm or deny. I'm not a techie in the satellite field, although there are some of us who follow this thread that are.

I know I have read a piece about research already in progress for Iridium II. I cannot find it. If memory serves (and it seems to be failing more often these days) it was from a reputable source -- I think New York Times. Will continue searching.

Macrocell, the Iridium II project, will use both CDMA and TDMA as well as FDMA/TDMA and FDMA/CDMA channels.

Iridium Pushes New Satellite Development
By RICHARD McCAFFERY
Space News Staff Writer

NEW YORK - Iridium LLC aims to complete specifications for its
second generation of satellites by the time Globalstar LP starts service of its first generation early next year. Washington-based Iridium, which should be the first of the so-called big low-Earth-orbit systems in operation, plans to start service of its
first generation of satellites Sept. 23.

Iridium and Motorola Inc., the project's prime contractor and
majority investor, will spend several hundred million dollars this year planning and ordering parts for Iridium Next Generation.
