Worldcom opens Singapore operations centre

Reuters Story - March 11, 1998 00:48

SINGAPORE, March 11 (Reuters) - U.S. carrier WorldCom Inc
opened an operations centre in Singapore on Wednesday.
The multi-million-dollar centre offers corporate voice and
data services and colocation services.
It would "meet needs of other telecoms companies, internet
service providers and businesses -- to locate their equipment,
to have us maintain and manage their equipment for them," Steve
Liddell, Worldcom's Asia Pacific president said at a news
conference.
He said it would provide 24-hour support in five languages.
Liddell said the move was central to WorldCom's plans to
make Singapore a telecoms hub for the Southeast Asian market if
it was successful in obtaining a licence to offer fixed-line
telephone services in Singapore.
WorldCom has teamed up with marine-based local conglomerate
SembCorp and state-owned railway system Singapore MRT
Ltd to bid for a licence to operate a national fixed-line
telephone network from April 2000.

As my famous Grandma Frau Maria Himmelfahrt used to say:

"And when you thought it was safe to get back in the water......"

Well, I enjoyed the time in the quietness of the self-imposed "penalty box", I should do this more often, allows for a greater perspective.

Observing from the outside: "the good, the bad, the ugly".... and the braindead too!, makes it fun again!

On a separate note:

Mr. DeNunzio,

>>Pay attention you FTEL junkies! H.323 that is the keyword!<<

(see Article # 2, below).

Would you please expand on the tid-bits below, might there be something I have lost in the translation into the English Language?

NeTrue Unveils Beta Release of NeTrueCom on DM3

NeTrue Communications, Inc., announced the beta release of NeTrueCom -- a complete IP telephony gateway based on Dialogic's DM3 platform. NeTrueCom is a new generation of IP telephony gateway, offering Telco-grade, standards-based IP voice, voice messaging, real-time fax and store-and-forward fax functionality. NeTrue has integrated its core technology, including IP Telephony Network Management (ITNM) and gatekeeper, with the DM3 platform.

The DM3 gives H.323 protocol compatibility and G,723.1 vocoder technology for improved voice quality; and NeTrue's ITNM generates the best possible grade of services (GoS) on the hybrid IP and PSTN telephony networks. NeTrue's gatekeeper technology enables the operation of global telecom services.

The DM3 mediastream architecture is a core set of specifications and firmware modules that enables firmware resource portability across multiple supported platforms. It eases multicard integration via the SCbus.

ITNM is developed by NeTrue for the purpose of improving overall grade of service on an IP Telephony network and facilitating IP Telephony implementation.

AVT Serves Up Desktop Message Manager for Outlook

Applied Voice Technology, Inc., (AVT) announced the newest addition to its family of unified messaging applications, Desktop Message Manager for Outlook. The product allows AVT's CallXpress users to conveniently manage voice, fax, and e-mail messages all from within the Microsoft Outlook interface.

Desktop Message Manager builds upon the strengths of the CallXpress unified messaging applications pioneered by AVT over five years ago. Desktop Message Manager for Outlook brings all of the powerful unified messaging controls of an intuitive graphical interface to the popular Microsoft Outlook interface, allowing users t manage all three message types from a single list using a single set of management commands. The product is a client-based application, which stores new messages on the CallXpress server until the user logs on to Outlook. Once the user logs on, CallXpress transports new voice and fax messages to the user's personal message store. Once the messages have been transferred, they are accessible through either the Outlook interface or the telephone. The product is supported by both CallXpress3 and CallXpress for Windows NT.

CC: By Tom Keating, Executive Technology Editor, CTI Magazine

Whenever I hear the word "virtual," I remind myself that it
means "not really." So, when I hear about virtual private
networks (VPNs), I'm torn. Does the virtual pertain to
private, in the sense that you needn't rely on private
networks to access private information - that you can
privately convey information and transact business over
facilities that are, in fact, public? Or does virtual
pertain to all those things we associate with the word
"private," things like security and reliability?
