Discloses Plans to Launch Exclusive New Messaging Service: 'Pager ID'(SM) Caller's Name & Number Will Appear on Word Pager From Any Phone, Anywhere ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Metrocall, Inc. (Nasdaq: MCLL - news) today announced the nationwide roll-out schedule of an exclusive new enhanced messaging service, ''Pager ID,'' which identifies the name of the person placing the call to the pager, as well as the telephone number to call -- regardless of whether or not the paging party initiates the call from his or her home telephone number. To date, no paging carrier offers a service that can identify the name of the paging party calling from a home telephone, let alone pages initiated from an office, cellular, car phone or pay telephone number. Metrocall's ''Pager ID'' service can identify the caller's name from any telephone, anywhere. ''The exclusive Metrocall 'Pager ID' service is truly unique to the wireless messaging industry,'' said William L. Collins, III, president and chief executive officer of Metrocall. '''Pager ID' is not only the first such service to be introduced but is much more sophisticated than any competitive services still on the drawing board. Also, 'Pager ID' is a perfect example of how a sophisticated technology innovation can be adapted to the efficiency and universality of one-way paging.'' Jeff Owens, Metrocall's senior vice president for technology stated, ''Our new 'Pager ID' service provides an exclusive value-added benefit for our customer base. Paging subscribers, like telephone 'caller ID' users, understand the true value and utility of knowing the caller's name as well as phone number.'' ''Pager ID'' will be available as an alphanumeric enhancement on Metrocall's nationwide service, effective in mid-April, 1998. Metrocall plans to roll out ''Pager ID'' regional service on a region-by-region basis during the second quarter of this year. Metrocall, Inc., ''America's Wireless Messaging Network,'' is headquartered in Alexandria, Va. (suburban Washington, D.C.) and is the nation's second largest paging and wireless messaging company with more than four million subscribers. Metrocall provides wireless products and services on a local, regional and nationwide basis through 200 office and retail store locations in twenty-five states. Metrocall operates via more than 5,000 transmitters on some 80 frequencies, including three nationwide frequencies which service 1,000 of America's largest markets.
