Thanks Jason

Very interesting page, especially if you use the maximum time span. I think it shows long term LARGE investor sentiment. If you look at some of the big growth companies like KO, G, CSCO, MSFT, DELL, AMGN, BA, C you can see a big bulging lens where the on-balance-volume line swells above its stock price. Those are companies where large investments preceded a parabolic rise in stock price, often by years. That's foresight! What is also interesting is how for all these companies, the lens is pinching off right now. That looks ominous to me. Companies where the analysis works on the downside include IBM in the 80's, GM in the 70's-but it didn't work in the 90's for GM.

Companies where the analysis doesn't seem to work include the successful biotech company, AGPH, also QCOM. WIND had a small lens in 1995, but gives mixed signals now. It is good that the balance line is higher than the stock price, but it doesn't look like a buy signal. I think that WIND is being dogged by short sellers who only see the high PE and competition from MSFT. WIND will have to shake them loose before the price can grow again. Also, institutions haven't bought the story yet.

The information that is available on-line for free is amazing!

Hi Carolyn,

The On Balance Volume indicator tries to show whether the heavier volume days are up or down. In Wind's case, over the last 2-3 weeks the stock has gone up on heavier volume then when it has gone down. This might indicate that the big money is accumulating the stock. But, who knows, it's just another indicator that some technicians use.

Regards,
Jason
