( BW)(WYSE-TECHNOLOGY) Wyse Technology Pledges Support for
Microsoft's Forthcoming Windows Terminal Server Technology

Business Editors/Computer Writers

Wyse Winterms Deployed at 215 Hydra Beta Sites Worldwide;
New Winterm 2000 Series Models Provide Support For
Remote Desktop Protocol Via Easy Migration Path

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 11, 1998--Wyse Technology, the world leader in
thin client technology, is demonstrating support for Microsoft's forthcoming Windows Terminal Server for
Windows NT Server 4.0 through its latest generation Winterm 2000 Series and the deployment of more
than 200 Wyse Winterms at Hydra beta sites worldwide. This week's release of Microsoft's Windows
Terminal Server beta 2 code brings the technology closer to introduction. With the new generation
Winterm offerings from Wyse, customers can invest today in Windows-based terminal technology and
have their investment remain viable for use with the forthcoming Microsoft offerings. The new Winterm
2000 Series models come with a seamless path to supporting the forthcoming Microsoft Remote
Desktop Protocol (RDP) so that IS managers can instantly upgrade these devices through a simple
firmware upgrade.
"Microsoft is pleased to announce the latest stage in the development of our Windows Terminal Server
technology and to see support from Wyse, which Microsoft sees as a major manufacturer of
Windows-based terminals," said John Frederiksen, group product manager at Microsoft. "Task-based
workers looking for terminal upgrades to access windows applications can now enjoy the implementation
of Windows-based terminals and look forward to seamlessly upgrading to the new Microsoft RDP
protocol if desired."
The new Winterm models are ideal for multiple environments ranging from vertical applications such as
manufacturing, healthcare, and banking to a variety of commercial institutions where customers are
seeking a simple way to access Windows, Java, legacy and browser-based applications. Additionally,
these solutions address customer needs for centralized management through a low-cost, high
performance thin client solution in a Windows NT environment.
"Wyse has a long standing relationship with Microsoft and prides itself on being at the forefront of
providing products that will immediately support Microsoft's new technology," said Roy Graham, Wyse
Technology's senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing and customer service. "Microsoft's
entrance into the Windows-based terminal arena is an exciting turning point for the industry. Support
from such an industry leader further demonstrates the viability and potential growth of thin clients based
on Windows NT environments and also provides customers with more options to how they can configure
their centrally managed networks."
Centralized management is one of the key factors for companies adopting thin client solutions such as
Wyse's Winterm 2000 Series family of Windows-based terminals. These devices provide optimal
network manageability and a highly secure environment in which to work. This is due to having all data
stored and managed on a server within a network. Due to this centralized manageability, companies save
thousands of dollars per year since all upgrades and "fixes" are only made to the server which in turn
effects each client within a network. Companies do not have to worry about inordinate "down time" or
have to spend excessive amounts of money on upgrading individual clients.
Wyse has also developed a software technology that will further boost the level of centralized
management and ease-of-use for IS managers. The new generation of Winterm 2000 Series models can
be seamlessly upgraded to the forthcoming RDP protocol via a server-based download into the device's
"flash" RAM using Wyse's WyseWorks Remote Administrator server software. IS managers do not
need to consider replacing hardware or upgrading individual clients since it is all handled in a quick and
easy fashion through the Remote Administrator server software.
Wyse-developed enhancements in Windows-based terminal display performance have given the new
Winterm 2000 line a 100 percent performance boost over Wyse's previous generation offerings.
Additionally, Wyse's built in investment protection allows IS managers to choose if and when to upgrade
to a new OS on the server and eliminates the need to purchase a new Windows-based Terminal should
the IS manager choose to add the RDP protocol to the installation. This upgrade capability, combined
with the performance breakthrough, makes the new Winterm 2000 Series members the ideal
Windows-based terminal choice for use either with Citrix ICA or RDP protocol connections.
Founded in 1981, Wyse Technology is the manufacturer of the award-winning Winterm
Windows-based terminals and is the world leader in terminals and thin client computing. With an installed
base of nearly eight million terminals and thin client devices, Wyse products are available through leading
distributors, systems integrators and Authorized Winterm Partners and are marketed under well-known
original equipment manufacturers' (OEM) labels worldwide. With headquarters in San Jose, California
and the Far East, Wyse has offices across the U.S., Canada, Europe and Asia. For more information,

Introduces Windows-based Terminal Solution Based on Microsoft Windows CE

Business Editors and Computer Writers

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 11, 1998--

NCD ThinSTAR QuickStart Packages Make Thin Clients and
Applications Easy to Deploy With Microsoft's
Windows Terminal Server

Network Computing Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:NCDI), a leading manufacturer of thin client desktops
and server software, today announced the NCD ThinSTAR QuickStart Solution.
This package combines the company's new NCD ThinSTAR Windows-based terminals, the first
commercially available Windows CE-based thin clients optimized to access Windows applications, with
consulting services designed to simplify customers' deployment of applications under multi-user Windows
NT.
In announcing the program, Lorraine Hariton, senior vice president of marketing and business
development for NCD, said, "Our goal is simple -- to give customers the real Microsoft Windows-based
terminals they've been asking for without the upgrade or application management hassles often required
by other terminals in the marketplace."
The NCD ThinSTAR is the first Windows-based terminal designed from the ground up specifically to
run Microsoft's thin client software. It employs the Microsoft Windows CE operating software and is
designed to allow users to choose Microsoft's Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) which provides an
end-to-end Microsoft-based thin client solution, or the value-added Independent Computing
Architecture (ICA) for access to pICAsso from Citrix Systems.
The NCD ThinSTAR QuickStart Solution is targeted at users of Microsoft's Windows Terminal
Server Beta II (code-named "Hydra") who want to quickly and easily take advantage of thin clients to
access multi-user Windows NT in their organizations.
The solution provides them with five or more plug-and-play desktop devices running beta II
ThinSTAR operating software, plus consulting help to address any specific environment needs customers
may have. The package also includes 60 days of unlimited telephone support.
An NCD ThinSTAR QuickStart 5-Pack sells for $4695, and can be ordered today with availability in
the second quarter of this year. Multiple configurations of the package are available. The program allows
customers to draw on NCD's 10 years of experience in thin client technology and extensive background
in Citrix WinFrame-based multi-user Windows NT access through their WinCenter product.
"Microsoft is focused on providing the benefits of Windows to terminal users," said John Frederiksen,
group product manager at Microsoft Corp., "We are impressed that NCD is delivering not just the thin
client, but also support services that help ensure the customer's success."
"Citrix is pleased to partner with NCD to provide thin client/server support for the NCD ThinSTAR
Windows-based terminal via our ICA and 'pICAsso' technologies," said Bob Gardner, director of OEM
and channel sales for Citrix. "Together, Citrix and NCD will provide businesses with a solution that
extends universal access to business-critical applications, while lowering the total cost of application
ownership."
The NCD ThinSTAR QuickStart Solution is designed to make customers successful with thin client
access to "Hydra." For more information, call 1-800-800-9599 or email us at: quickstart@ncd.com.
