SPM,

That is even farther than I thought it had gone, but that is a very good idea! Not only do they not have to store the monitors, but the customer gets the latest version of the monitor! Does DELL do the same thing with the 'speaker' portion of the sound system? Or keyboard? Technically they would only have to built the box that way!

The testing could be done at a test stand with known good equipment that way! Great idea, if the outsourced equipment is as good as DELL's, put all of that could be tested prior to shipping, then the only equipment that doesn't work would have been damaged in shipping!

(When I was at IBM, we used to call that a 'field marriage'!)

Regards,

Ken

DELL WILL MOVE FORWARD TO NEW HIGHS WHEN...

Analysts and institutions realize that the difficulty facing DELL's competitors is the result of (and for no other reason) their indirect business models being socked by the DELL model.

This is a major opportunity (and opening) for DELL to steal significant market share from "the Big 3".

Within four quarters, I predict that DELL will:

1) dominate the overall PC market in Japan and Asia-Pacific for US PC makers.

2) become #2 (if not #1) of world-wide PC producers.

3) not merge with or buy anyone else.

4) experience significantly better growth in workstations and servers than any of its competitors, and will in fact grow (significantly)this part of its business more than its PC segment.

5) force HP to fold up its tent in the PC arena (really! It's the printers, stupid!).

6) announce another 2 for 1 split.
