IDX also doesn't participate in the Biometric Consortium. I think I see a pattern here. Identix is not joining up with the crowd, and you can read this a few ways: (1) IDX is so fixated on hardware contracts that it has no time to worry about software. It will be blown aside by the coming companies, such as SACM and Who?Vision, onto the ash heap of history. I don't think so. (2) IDX is working on software, but doesn't work and play well with others, preferring to be alone. I don't think so. (3) IDX is working on software with major providers such as Netscape and Microsoft, as noted by Salomon Brothers in its report -- and HP -- and finds its competitors' arrangements irrelevant, especially considering that IDX is the dominant software leader on installed base. And has a unique algorithm that is inherently secure. Bingo.
